Annapurna Circuit Trek is known as the most popular and spectacular trekking route in the Annapurna region. The ACT takes you through the beautiful mountain villages inhabited by a diverse group of ethnic groups, presenting a picturesque view of the majestic Annapurna mountain range. The trail provides you a unique opportunity to experience the world’s deepest gorge (Kali Gandaki Gorge) and the world’s highest pass (Thorang-La Pass  5416m) during the trekking period.

During the trek you will have a chance to enjoy the delightful views of the Himalayan Range, including three major peaks, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu and Mt. Dhaulagiri, all of which measure above 8,000m. The Trek starts from Besisahar heading up north to the Marsyangdi Valley before reaching the high and dry Tibetan village of Manang. After reaching Manang, the trail leads you to the highest point of the trek; The Thorang La Pass 5416m. After crossing the pass, you’ll enter the hidden world of old Buddhist kingdom of Mustang which also houses the famous Hindu temple, Muktinath.  The trail further leads you to several villages and viewpoints before taking you to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara.

Day 1 - Arrival Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), our representative will meet and welcome the guest. Please note that guest(s) should look the signage with their name once they come out of Arrival Terminal Hall. 

Guest will be transferred to the hotel. our representative will escort the guest up to hotel and will help in check in process at the hotel.

After breakfast there will be a trek briefing by your tour leader to let you know the programme for the next few days. Making sure everyone is properly equipped for the trek and to give you an idea of what to expect on a day to day basis.

Walking of Kathmandu Durbar Square, with its old temples and palaces, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of the people. Here, the kings of Nepal are crowned and solemnized.  Interesting things for visitors to see are Taleju temple, gigantic figure of Kalbhairav (the god of destruction), Basantapur Durbar, and Temple of Kumari (living goddess)

Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square situated in the center of Patan city, also known as Lalitpur. Patan Square and its surroundings is good specimen of ancient Newari architecture. There are three main courtyards in the palace: Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk and Keshav Narayan Chowk. Mul Chowk, the oldest one, is at the centre of Patan square. Several multi-sized and multi-styled temples occupy the western part of the complex. Main among these is Krishna Temple, Bhimsen Temple and the Golden Temple of Hiranya Varna. Krishna Mandir, which is devoted to Lord Krishna, is one of the best examples of stone architecture in Nepal. Scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana (holy Hindu epics) are carved on the walls of the Krishna Mandir.

Day 3 - Kathmandu to Besisahar drive and trek to Bhulbhule

After breakfast, drive to Besi Sahar (approx 6 hrs drive) – depending on the road condition

Trek from Besi Sahar to Bulbule (840 m) – approx: 3 hrs walk

We start our trek at Besi Sahar (760m) and continue on to the Gurung village of Khudi (790m) where we cross the Khudi Khola. From here we follow the trail northwards up the Marsyangdi valley to Bulbule where we stop for overnight

Day 4 - Trek from Bhulbhule to Jagat (1500m)

Trek from Bhulbhule to Jagat (1500m) – approx: 7 hrs walk

Crossing the long suspension bridge over Marsyangdi, the trail continues up the east bank of the river with good views of Manaslu (8156m) to the north-east.  Through the villages of Ngadi and Lampata the trail leads to Bahundanda (1310m). From Bahundanda we will be walking down the trail to cross a stream and then climbing to the settlement of Lili Bir and continue high above the river eventually dropping to cross to the western side of the Marsyangdi at Syange (1190m) after which the trail becomes steep in parts, reaching the ancient village of Jagat (1300m).

Trek from Jagat to Dharapani (1860m) – approx 7 hrs walk

From Jagat the trail descends to the Marsyangdi following the riverbank before climbing up through forests to Chamje (1430m). The trail initially crosses the river to the east bank and climbs up to the large settlement of Tal (1675m), where there are many shops and lodges. Crossing and then re-crossing the river as it makes its way to Karte, the trail finally crosses again to the west bank before continuing through the village of Dharapani (1860m).

Day 6 - Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2670m)

Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2670m) – approx: 7½ hrs walk

Following the Marsyangdi river, the trail continues in a westwards direction up the Manang valley. Throughout the day one can enjoy spectacular views of Annapurna II (7937m) and Annapurna IV to the west. Initially the trail climbs through forests to Dhanakyu (2290m) and to the settlement of Lattemarang (2360m) eventually to the village of Kotho (2590m) over several forested ridges. After easy walk for half hour we will reach Chame (2670m), the administrative headquarters for the Manang district.

After crossing to the northern side of the river from Chame and it is an easy trail to the village of Bhratang (2840m). From here the valley is steep and narrow and leads through dense forests eventually crossing back to the south side of the river on a suspension bridge at 3040m and ending at the large village of Pisang (3190m).

Continuing on the south side of the river and the trail includes a long climb over a ridge to reach approx 3400m and then descends to the valley and then to Hongde (3325m) where there is an airstrip, several lodges and a police check post. After crossing to the north bank of the river near Mungli we will reach Bryaga at (3475m) - Tibetan-style village with an ancient Gompa. After a short walk we will reach Manang (3540m).

Acclimatization day at Manang

To adjust to the thinning air and lessening pressure, the day is kept aside for acclimatization to continue upwards towards the Thorung La the next day. On this day, we can walk around to a number of the interesting areas near to Manang, though it also important to rest before the trek to higher altitude.

Day 10 - Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka (4018m)

Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka (4018m) – approx: 4-5 hrs walk

On this day, we will trek slowly to Tengi (3620m) and steadily walk upwards to Gunsang (3930m) and reach Yak Kharka (4018m). We can observe vegetation consisting of scrub juniper and alpine grasses and even the views of peaks of Gangapurna (7454m) and Annapurna III (7555m) on the trail are magnificent.

The first small settlement we reach after a steady walk upwards is Letdar (4250m). With a climb along the east bank of the Jarsang Khola, we will reach Thorung Phedi (4450m) which means “foot of the hill”, and indeed this is the starting point for the long trek up to the pass at 5416m.

Trek to Muktinath (3800), crossing Thorung –La Pass (5416 m) - approx 9/10 hrs walk (weather permitting and depending on the snow)

Depending on the fitness and acclimatization, the walk to Thorung La could take less than 4 hours, but we will make a steady climb up to the Thorung La (“la” means “pass”) with the aim to reach the pass in four hours from Phedi. The site one can see upon reaching the pass is of traditional chorten, prayer flags, and cairn, and panorama of Himalayan giants along with the first view of the immense Kali Gandaki valley to the west. As we descend we can have great views of Dhaulagiri (8167m) to the south-west, and Tukuche Peak (6920m) as we reach down to Muktinath and Ranipauwa.

Day 13 - Trek from Muktinath to Kagbeni (2800m)

Morning, visit one of the greatest pilgrimage for Hindu people- Muktinath temple. There is other Buddhist temple situated near by Muktinath temple -Jwala Mai Temple where you can see a burning flame on the water. After visiting to the temples we head toward our next destiny Kagbeni via Jong to escape main road. Tonight, we spent night at Kagbeni which is main entrance for Mustang District. Explore Kagbeni village.

Trek from Kagbeni to Marpha (2670m) – approx 7 hrs walk

After leaving main road from Kagbeni, we follow Ekle Bhatti- Jomsom trails on the opposite side of the river to reach Jomsom. Very good views of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri from Jomsom. We walk further through Thini Village to reach Dumba Lake and Monastery after which we walk down from the ridge and cross stream, then follow middle trial to reach Marpah. Marpha is a typical Thakali village and it is famous for its apples and brandy product. Trail will depend on water level because during high water periods, wooden bridge will be removed and one needs to cross the river and walk for approx. 40 mins into the village on the jeep road. A very good views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Dhampus Peak, Thapa Peak.

Day 15 - Trek from Marpha to Kalopani (2530m)

We cross the river and walk to Chokhepani through Tibetan Refugee camp at Chairo, then continue to Tukuche. From Tukuche the trail is undulated and continues through Sauru Village to reaches Kobang Village and finally reaches to Larjung for lunch. Again we cross the river and continue our walk down to Kalopani along with views of Annapurna mountain range.

Day 16 - Trek from Kalopani to Tatopani (1190m)

The trail will have jeep and off trail till Ghasa. Then we descend to the bridge from Ghasa. After crossing the bridge we follow the trail through Pairo Toplo to Kopche pani and continue walking to the opposite side of Rupse Chhahara water fall. After reaching Topang we cross a river and continue walking to Tatopani on main trail. There are two public hot spring baths in Tatopani.

Day 17 - Trek from Tatopani to Ghorepani (2860m)–

We walk through the Thak Khola and cross the bridge then climb steeply up through the forest to a pass. The trail then climbs steadily up to Shikha with good views of Kaligandaki valley and Dhaulagiri Mountain. Then we climb up till Ghorepani through the rhododendron forest.

Early in the morning walk up to Poon Hill for sunrise. From Poon Hill one can enjoy good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche peak, Kali Gandaki Vallye, Nilgiri, Annapurna 1, Machhapuchhare to Lamjung Himal. After breakfast we start descending to Tirkhedhunga then follow the trail till Birethanthi.

Day 19 - Trek from Birethanthi to Nayapul (1070m) walk & drive to Pokhara

Trek from Birethanthi to Nayapul (1070m) walk & drive to Pokhara– approx 1.5 hrs drive

We walk to Nayapul for 20 minutes and drive to Pokhara for 1.5 hrs. Check into the hotel in Pokhara. Free afternoon to explore Pokhara.

Pokhara Valley

Pokhara valley is one of the most picturesque spot of Nepal. The beauty of Pokhara is enhanced by its lovely lakes, which have their source in the glacial region of the Annapurna range of the Himalayas. Situated 200 KM west of Kathmandu at an altitude of 827 meter from the sea-level, for the mountain viewers Pokhara offers a magnificent view of Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchre (Fishtail), five peaks of Annapurna and others. Pokhara is the only place in the world to provide such views in a sub-tropical setting. Machhapuchre, for example, is only 28 km from Phewa Lake and not a single mountain range intervenes between the two.

Phewa Lake

Phewa Lake, the second largest lake in the Kingdom, is the center of all attraction in Pokhara. It is the largest and most enchanting of the three lakes that add to the resplendence of Pokhara. Here, one can sail or row a hired boat across the lake to visit the island temple in its middle. The eastern shore, popularly known as lakeside or Baidam, is the favorite home base for travelers and is where most of the hotels, restaurants and handicraft shops are located.

Day 20 - Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Morning sightseeing tour of Pashupatinath Temple & Boudhanath stupa

Pashupatinath Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Pashupatinath Temple is the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world, lies 5 km east of the city center. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga, or phallic symbol, of Lord Shiva. Chronicles indicate the temple’s existence prior to 400 AD. Devotees can he seen taking ritual dips in the holy Bagmati river flowing beside the temple.

 

Boudhanath (Little Tibet) – UNESCO World Heritage Site

Boudha is among the largest Stupas in south Asia. It has become the focal point of Buddhism in Nepal. The white mound looms thirty – six meters overhead. The Stupa is located on the ancient trade route to China. Tibetan merchants rested and offered prayers here.

Afternoon transfer to Bhaktapur & visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Bhaktapur is known as the open ‘open museum’ and a living heritage. Bhaktapur means the city of the devotees. Bhaktapur Durbar Square contains countless temples and architectural showpieces. The Lion Gate, Nyatapola temple, Bhairavnath, Dattatreya, the statue of King Bhupatindra Malla, the picture Gallery, the golden Gate, the 55 Windows Palace, and the Batsala Temple etc are the primary attraction of this Square. The Lion Gate adorned with stone figures of Hanuman, Bhairav and Narasingh Narayan was built during the reign of King Bhupatindra Malla. The golden Gate built by King Ranjit Malla is an entrance to the main courtyard and the palace of 55 windows which is the most beautiful carved specimens. You can also see the Picture Gallery which includes paintings of Hindu and Buddhist schools of Tantrism.
